Takt Voll Adlung Spiel 3-8 Players Rules Translation by Chris Mellor Typed and Edited by Mike Siggins Distributed from The Rules Bank by Mike Siggins Version 1.0 - 8th June 1996 Contents 91 game cards 4 clefs 55 notes 4 pauses (jokers) 4 bar types 24 bar lines 1 pad Introduction Takt Voll a game only for musicians? You are way off! Knowledge of notes is an advantage, but not of note.... Basic Game Aim of the Game The players attempt through clever playing of the note and line cards to score for themselves as many bars as possible, of the greatest intricacy (?), and to have as few cards as possible left over. Beginning the Game The youngest player begins. If he cannot, or does not wish to, place a clef, then it is the turn of the player on his left. Preparation Choose a player who will record all points scored on the pad provided. All the bar line cards are sorted out of the card deck and distributed equally to the players. Should there be any bar line cards left over (with 5 or 7 players) these are put back into the card deck and shuffled well. Each player receives 5 cards. The remaining cards in the deck are placed face down on the table in a pile. The Game 1. Each row of notes begins with a clef and is followed, as the second card, by a type of bar card (eg 2/4) 2. The sum of all notes in a bar can in no way be higher than what is given on the card placed directly after the clef. 3. A bar line can only be played at the end of a full bar. 4. When it is your turn you must either place a suitable card or take the top card from the deck (if he cannot or does not wish to play a card) and can optionally, and should it be possible, play the taken card. 5. [Otherwise] a player may only pick up or play one card in a round. Exception: if a player, with playing a note card, has successfully filled a bar (ie he has played exactly the right number of notes for the bar type) he may then play a bar line card and score the bar for himself. Points/Scoring If a player places a bar line then he is credited with as many points as there are in the just completed bar. Clefs, type of bar, bar line cards are not included in the points total. The points are immediately noted on the pad by the scorer. End of game The game ends if a player has no more cards or no player can (or wishes to) take his turn. Minus/Penalty Points For each card that you hold in your hand at the end of the game you deduct points from your score - for each card, 1 point, for each bar line card, 2 points. The Winner is the player with most points at the end of the game. Editor's Note: It is presumed that the bars are played to jointly by all players and the player placing the bar line card gains the points.. Official Variant 1 The gap between two notes following one another can at the most be a third (so there is a maximum of two tone gaps upwards or downwards). Otherwise the rules for the basic game apply. Official Variant 2 Advanced players only! Whoever lays the second note of a Prim (= 2 similar adjacent notes) or a Quarti (fourth) or Quinti (fifth) or Oktave (octave) is immediately credited with a bonus point for laying this card and creating a pure intonal (sp?)/interval. You can remove the 1/4 bar type from the game as this is not used much in music. Otherwise the rules for the basic game apply. The Cards and Their Meanings Clefs - This card has to be placed at the start of a row, so in total 4 rows are possible. Bar Types - These cards are played second in the rows. The sum of the notes or pauses in a row may never exceed the value given on the bar type. Bar Line - 24 cards, distributed equally among the players. Notes The Semi Breve - 11 cards with notes. This card only fits in a 4/4 row. These cards can be turned the other way round. The Minim - 11 cards which fit in only 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4 rows. These cards can be turned the other way round. The Crotchet - 11 cards which fit in any row. These cards can be turned the other way round. The Quaver - 11 cards which fit in any row. These cards can not be turned the other way round. The Semi Quaver - 11 cards which fit in any row. These cards can not be turned the other way round. Pause Cards There are several types of Pause cards that may be played as jokers in place of the same type of note. Tip1: For the inexperienced in musical notation, it is recommended that the 4 pause cards are sorted out and placed back in the box. Tip 2: Always put some cold water in the bath before getting in. Tip 3: It is recommended that the players do not hold their cards in a fan, but keep all their cards face down in a single pile so that other players have no idea how many cards they have. Appendix The illustrations on the back page of the rules show the value of the notes.
