Dear Ken,

just a short remark to your shock concerning the expansion to El Grande:

The reason for not-nomination is simple as the expansion is not a complete game, not playable by it's own. For the same reason the Seefahrer expansion for Catan was not considered.

Righto. Thanks for the explanation. I was not aware of this restriction.

So, in many ways, it would have been smarter for Hans im Gluck to release two editions of Koenig & Intrigant: one containing a complete game with board, counters, etc, and another edition that could be used to upgrade existing El Grande games. That way they would have qualified for SdJ. No?

No problem.

Idon't think this would have been a good plan because the game won the award once and the same game can't win the award a second time.

Well it's not the same game (better in my feeling) but too close to the original.

What about Wildlife Adventure and Expedition/TerraX?

How about Formule 1 and Top Race?

Koenig & Intrigant seems much more different from El Grande than these new editions were from their original editions...

You're right. I wasn't happy with the nomination of these two games but they got a majority.

And there seems to be a language problem (sorry my fault): A game that won the prize once cannot win it a second time (and, but I'm not sure of this, can't be on the list a second time).

But a game can be on the list more than once if it is not only just a remake. The big problem now: How much has to be changed not to be just a remake?

The same question (changes) arises here. The second problem is the problem of only beeing an expansion. And the third that it was released one year after getting the award.

Maybe it would look different if Koenig & Intrigant had been released ten years later as a complete game?

Nice Dice, Helmut
