Reviewed in full by our Mr Dagger in an early Sumo so you are spared the full woffle, I have only recently got round to playing this one. I write these short comments really to state the opposite view to the apparently generally held belief that Pompeii is a good game. In my view, it isn't. The first two phases of the game are sub-Monopoly in scope and could be handled by a straightforward deal and a trading round, scrapping the cash transactions altogether. The vaguely more interesting third part, where you try and escape with your clients from the rapidly dropping lava (very reminiscent in content to Abandon Ship I'm told), can then be played in about half an hour rather than the two hours that the full game takes. Yes, the pieces are lovely and yes they deserve better but it isn't going to happen with this set of rules. Best offer secures. Please.
